This Death Wish-meets-Sleeping With the Enemy thriller from chairman Michael Apted (Gorillas in the Mist, Thunderheart) is packed with tension and chain of events twists. It also loses all credibility and much of its redeeming social value lovingly before Jennifer Lopez takes a blast process in Zen-in the mood for hand-to-hand combat, straps on a join in wedlock of steel-toed boots and literally begins kicking kibitz. Panic’s female victim and empowerment theme gets a vigilante pervert with Lopez playing a sweet-hearted waitress named Slim who marries, has a daughter with and is then abused by a filthy-rich, womanizing contractor (Billy Campbell from TV’s Then and Again). We sense the valet is not the Prince Charming we bear been led to feel when he refuses to pay out a drizzle with Slim and know he is definitely, as a matter of fact unprincipled well before he psychotically stalks her across the country. The film itself lot of has that same downhill slide.
